Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:
Sunday, May 31: At 9:20 pm a deputy transported a female prisoner that had been arrested by the Jefferson police department with active warrants from Guthrie County, to the Greene County line to be picked up by a Guthrie County deputy. At 10:59 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 500 block of S. 11th Street in Grand Junction to investigate the possible burglary to a home.

Friday, May 29: At 1:13 am a deputy was dispatched to a reported motorcycle lying on its side on Highway 30 between Scranton and Jefferson. The deputy was unable to locate any vehicles in that area from Jefferson to the Carroll County line. At 9:28 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 200 block of Main St in Rippey to investigate a reported theft of personal property. At 11:11 pm a deputy was advised of the location of a possible under age party in the eastern part of the county.
Thursday, May 28: At 11:27 am a deputy was dispatched to a two vehicle accident on Highway 30 and Railroad Street W. in Grand Junction. Lynne Paul Schnoebelen, 56, of Riverside was westbound on Highway 30, attempting to turn left onto Railroad St at Rueter’s Red Power, when Robert Lawayne Dennis, 23, of Princeton, TX, who was following him, failed to slow and struck the Schnoebelen vehicle in the rear. There were no injuries. Dennis was ecited for failure to maintain control. Damage to his 2008 Chrysler Town and Country minivan was estimated $7,500. Damage to Schnoebelen’s 2009 Chevrolet Impala was estimated at $2,800. At 4:50 pm a deputy assisted an Iowa State Patrol officer with an accident involving a pull camper that came unhooked from its tow unit and struck another car at the intersection of Highways 30 and 144 in Grand Junction. At 7 pm a deputy conducted tobacco compliance checks throughout the county. At 7:26 pm a deputy investigated a harassment concern in the 800 block of E. Percival St in Grand Junction. At 10:59 pm a deputy assisted with locating a caller that was leaving harassing text messages to a resident in the 1800 block of Neola Ave in south of Jefferson.
Wednesday, May 27: At 8:10 am, a deputy checked an abandoned two wheel trailer that had come unhitched from a vehicle and entered the ditch in the 800 block of County Road P-14 (I Ave) in Bristol Township. At 7:09 pm a deputy was dispatched to the water retention pond south of Scranton for the report of three juvenile females swimming in the pond. The three females were advised that swimming in the pond was prohibited and they agreed to leave the area.
Tuesday, May 26: At 8 am the chief deputy sheriff and K-9 Leo assisted the Boone County sheriff’s office K-9 unit with a search of the school in Huxley for drugs. At 3:45 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction to help locate a runaway juvenile male.
Monday, May 25: At 1 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 1400 block of Jordan Avenue to investigate the report of loud gunshots. Four males were located and indicated that they were target shooting in the area. At 3:15 pm a deputy was dispatched to a reported two vehicle accident at the intersection of County Road E-26 (170th St) and O Ave in Hardin Township. Laura Mignon Rasmussen of rural Jefferson was southbound on O Ave when she stopped at the stop sign and then attempted to make a U turn on E-26. The front of her vehicle entered the south lane of E-26 and was struck by Douglas Dean Smith, 35, of Lake City. Smith was eastbound driving a pickup truck pulling an enclosed trailer. Rasmussen was transported to Greene County Medical Center by private vehicle for further medical attention. She will be cited for failure to obey a stop/yield sign. Damage to her 2004 Buick Century was estimated at $5,000. Damage to Smith’s 2005 H&H trailer was estimated at $1,500. His 2013 Ford F250 pickup truck was not damaged.
Sunday, May 24: At 12:50 pm a deputy investigated a harassment concern in the 700 block of 11th Street S. in Grand Junction. At 1:15 pm a deputy took custody of a small amount of marijuana that was found and brought to the Greene County Law Enforcement Center by an anonymous male subject. At 6 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 700 block of S. 12th Street in Grand Junction to try and locate an 4-wheel ATV that was reported to be driving careless on city streets. At 8:10 pm a deputy was advised of four pickup trucks being driven recklessly around Grand Junction. A description of the trucks was given, but the deputy was unable to locate them at that time.

Friday, May 22: At 11:28 am, a deputy, the sheriff and the Jefferson fire department water rescue unit were dispatched to locate and rescue two members of a family that were camping and canoeing on the Raccoon River near the Union Pacific railroad trestle bridge west of Jefferson when their canoe became entangled in a brush pile and overturned. Rodney A. Drzaic, 19, swam to the south side of the river, while his father, David E. Drzaic, 54, swam out of the river to the north side, separating the two. Being from the Omaha area and not familiar with their location, they dialed E-911 and a dispatcher mapped the call to that general location. Rodney was picked up by a sheriff’s vehicle along the river bank, while the Jefferson fire department rescue team, in a boat, picked up David from the bank of the river. The canoe and most of their possessions were lost in the river, but the two were found safe and unharmed. The two had stated that they started the trip on the river in Carroll County several days previous to capsizing the canoe. At 1:24 pm a deputy assisted an Iowa State Patrol officer with a traffic accident at Highway 30 and 144 intersection. The Grand Junction fire and rescue and Greene County Emergency Medical Services personnel each transported the drivers of the two vehicles to the Greene County Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. The Iowa State Patrol investigated the accident.
Thursday, May 21: At 7:59 am, a deputy was dispatched to the 100 block of 185th St in Kendrick Township to investigate an attempted burglary. It appears that nothing was taken from the farmstead. At 3:54 pm a deputy was dispatched to investigate a minor backing accident in the 400 block of Sand St in Churdan. Tabatha Marie Nalley, 18, of Churdan was backing from a parking spot in front of the Churdan Library when she struck a parked car owned by Margaret Karen Anderson, 47, of Lohrville. Damage to the Anderson vehicle was estimated to be $1500. There was no damage reported to the Nalley vehicle. Nalley was issued a citation for unsafe backing. At 4:56 pm a deputy was dispatched to the city shed in Grand Junction to investigate a small fire that was set behind the building. After an investigation by the deputy, two juvenile male subjects were charged with reckless use of fire. At 7:53 pm two deputies and an Iowa state trooper were dispatched to a reported fight in progress in which a knife was reported to have been brandished in the 800 block of Percival St. After an investigation, Joshua Martinez, 31, of Ogden was subsequently arrested for assault-aggravated*.
Wednesday, May 20: No activity reported.
Tuesday, May 19: At 7:38 am a deputy located and arrested Christopher Herbert Lawrence, 35, of Jefferson for driving while barred*. At 10 am a deputy was asked to assist the Department of Human Services with an investigation. At 12:38 pm a deputy was dispatched to Main St and Irving St in Scranton to investigate a reported two vehicle accident. Kathryn Marie Owen, 37, of Scranton was southbound on Main St and attempting to turn left onto Irving St when a Isaac Joseph Perez, 19, also of Scranton attempted to pass her but struck her car. No injuries were reported. Perez was cited for unsafe passing. Damage to Owen’s vehicle was estimated to be $3,500. Damage to the Perez pickup was estimated to be $500. At 8:56 pm a deputy was advised of harassing phone calls being placed to a resident in the 1100 block of Lincoln St in Scranton. The deputy spoke with the male subject initiating the calls and advised him that charges would be pursued if the calls continued.
Monday, May 18: At 7:07 am a deputy was dispatched to a one vehicle accident involving a goose flying into the windshield of a pickup truck in the 200 block of County Road E-53 (250th St) near Dunbar Slough in Scranton Township. Branden Gerrick Smith, 39, of Coon Rapids was driving a 2006 Ford F250 pickup truck when an adult goose struck and broke his windshield. Smith was not injured in the accident. At 10:46 pm a deputy picked up a wanted male subject that was arrested by the Boone police department and transported him back to the Greene County Law Enforcement Center on a Greene County warrant.
Sunday, May 17: At 10:03 am a deputy was dispatched to the 400 block of East Rebecca St in Grand Junction to investigate criminal mischief to several vehicles. At 1:26 pm, a deputy assisted a JPD officer with a traffic accident at N. Maple and W. Adams St in Jefferson. At 7:39 pm a deputy was advised by a resident in Paton of being harassed and stalked by a male subject.
Saturday, May 16: At 2:14 pm a deputy was advised of an abandoned e-911 call that mapped to a location on K Ave, just south of 210th St in Bristol Township. The deputy was not able to locate anyone at the hog confinement building. At 2:30 pm, a deputy was dispatched to the 2400 block of L Ave in Greenbrier Township to investigate the reported theft of a new born calf from a pasture. The calf was later found by the owner. At 3:33 pm a deputy assisted the Union Pacific railroad with having several vehicles removed from railroad property in the 100 block of 16th Street North in Grand Junction. At 7 pm a deputy assisted with a vehicle that had lost a tire while driving on Highway 30 near W Ave east of Grand Junction. The tire then bounced and struck another car. No injuries were reported and very little damage to either vehicle
Friday, May 15: At 5:30 pm a deputy was advised of a possible under age party in eastern Greene County. At 7:17 pm a deputy dispatched to the 1700 block of County Road E-26 (170th St) in Hardin Township for a reported cow that was grazing along the roadway. The deputy placed the cow back into the pasture.
Thursday, May 14: At 4:10 am, a deputy was dispatched to investigate someone trespassing and disturbing a resident in the 100 block of S. Wise St in Paton. At 8:10 pm a deputy was asked to pick up a stray male Husky dog from a farm residence in the 700 block of Brentwood Ave in Kendrick Township and transport it to the animal shelter in Jefferson. At 11:21 pm a deputy was dispatched to a report of cattle on the roadway on County Road E-26 (170th St) near Q Ave in Hardin Township. The cattle were not located upon the deputy’s arrival.
Wednesday, May 13: At 5 pm a deputy was advised of the illegal dumping of garbage in the 600 block of 150th St in Cedar Township. At 5:36 pm the Greene County sheriff’s office was advised of a railroad crossing arm that was malfunctioning at the Main Street crossing in Scranton. The Union Pacific railroad was advised of the malfunction. At 7:31 am a deputy was informed by a resident of Highland Township that that she had received a scam phone call indicating that she needed to contact the IRS or would be in serious trouble. Many individuals in Greene County have received this same phone call.
Tuesday, May 12: At 3:55 pm a deputy was advised of an erratic and careless driver on Highway 30 near J Ave. The deputy did locate the reported vehicle and evaluated the actions of the driver for several miles and did not see any driving infractions at that time. At 5:23 pm a deputy was dispatched to the Jordan Ave railroad crossing for the report of several male subjects trespassing on Union Pacific railroad property. The deputy was not able to locate the male subjects. At 6:33 pm a deputy was advised by personnel from the Boone County Hospital ER of a dog bite that had occurred in Grand Junction. The dog bite occurred to a male subject when he tried to keep two dogs from fighting that were being kept in the same house in the 900 block of N. 11th St.
Monday, May 11: At 1:44 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 300 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction to investigate the reported theft of a 50cc Yamaha dirt bike. The dirt bike was later recovered and the investigation is ongoing. At 3:25 pm a JPD officer assisted with making a traffic stop on County Road E-53 just east of Jefferson after deputies were advised of a gas drive off from the Casey’s General Store in Grand Junction. Upon the deputies’ arrival, they advised the driver of the vehicle that Casey’s would not pursue charges if the driver returned and paid the $25.02 for the gas and the driver agreed to do so.
Sunday, May 10: At 12:48 am a deputy was dispatched to a suspicious vehicle reported to be near a residence in the 100 block of County Road E-39 (210th St). The deputy located the vehicle in Carroll County and initiated a traffic stop on that car. The deputy subsequently arrested Brett Dale Neal, 39, of Cedar Rapids for driving while barred and driving while suspended (20 counts)*. At 7:30 pm four members of the Greene County sheriff’s office patrolled the western part of Greene County during the severe weather outbreak. At 8:20 pm a deputy was dispatched to a location at County Road E-53 (240th St) and K Ave in Jackson Township to investigate the report of trespassing. People were reported to be entering the old motel at the top of Danger Hill on old Highway 30 west of Jefferson.
Saturday, May 9: At 5:48 am the sheriff provided traffic control at the bike trail crossing at 252nd St in Grant Township for the Market to Market Relay to Des Moines. At 5:03 pm a deputy was advised of criminal mischief to the siding of a home in the 200 block of 19th St in Grand Junction. At 7:53 pm a deputy and the Churdan fire department responded to a grass fire on 150th St and H Ave in Highland Township. The fire was extinguished without incident. At 9:34 pm a deputy and the Grand Junction fire and rescue were dispatched to a reported single vehicle accident that occurred at Squirrel Hollow Park. Delaney Moriah Spencer, 21, of Coon Rapids ran off the roadway and into a ravine in the park area. After an investigation by the deputy, Spencer was arrested for operating while intoxicated (OWI)-first offense and cited for failure to maintain control*. At 10:59 pm a deputy was dispatched to a motorcycle accident in the 200 block of 18th St in Grand Junction. Randy Linn Delp, 55, of rural Grand Junction was southbound in the 200 block of 18th St when he drove his 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle off the roadway and struck several parked vehicles. Delp was thrown from his motorcycle after striking the second vehicle. Delp was transported to the Greene County Medical Center by personnel from the Greene County Emergency Medical Services for his injuries and later taken by Mercy Air to the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Damage to the two vehicles Delp struck was estimated to be $3,000 each, with his motorcycle a total loss. Charges are pending DCI lab results. At 11:42 pm, a deputy was dispatched to a reported fight in progress at Squirrel Hollow Park. Most all parties involved had left the scene before the deputy’s arrival.
Friday, May 8: At 12:53 am, a deputy was dispatched to the 209 Main Restaurant in Paton to investigate the theft of personal property. Surveillance cameras will be checked to determine a time and suspect. At 3 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 700 block of B Ave in Kendrick Township to investigate a trespassing complaint. At 4:08 pm two deputies were dispatched to help locate a juvenile male who did not get off the school bus in the 2100 block of P Ave in Franklin Township. The juvenile was later located by a deputy at the school playground in Grand Junction. The deputy transported the male to the Greene County Law Enforcement Center to be picked up by his parents.
Thursday, May 7: At 5:24 am a deputy was dispatched to a one vehicle accident that occurred on Highway 30 east of H Ave east of Scranton. Kim M Mentolarok, 24, of Jefferson lost control of his vehicle and the car went into the ditch striking a fence. Mentolarok was not injured but was issued a citation for failure to maintain control. Damage to his 2000 Buick LeSabre was estimated to be $4500. At 3:17 pm a deputy assisted with traffic control and the cleanup of soybean seed that was spilled from a bulk container at the intersection of Highway 30 and Highway 4.
Wednesday, May 6: At 1:21 pm a deputy was dispatched to County Road E-57 (290th St) and County Road P-14 (J Ave) to investigate the report of a car battery and fire extinguisher taken from a mechanical high lift machine that was experiencing mechanical problems parked along the roadway. The machine had been at the location for several days. At 1:50 pm the chief deputy sheriff was unable to locate the driver of a vehicle that was reported to be driving while barred in Jefferson. At 5:34 pm a deputy was advised of a possible intoxicated driver entering Greene County from Carroll County. The vehicle was located and evaluated with the deputy seeing no driving infractions.
Tuesday, May 5: At 3:40 pm deputies checked the report of a suspicious vehicle near the Greene County Intermediate School in Grand Junction. The vehicle and the driver were identified and was confronted about his actions.
Monday, May 4: At 4:17 pm a deputy was dispatched to a two vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of F Ave and 270th St in Scranton Township. Jamie Christian Hansman, 46, of Glidden was driving a 2006 Ford F 350 pickup and pulling a flatbed trailer eastbound on 270th St. He was partially through the intersection when his trailer was struck by Amanda Kay Sukovaty, 23, of rural Scranton, who was driving a 2004 Chevrolet. No injuries were reported by either driver. Sukovaty was cited for failure to yield the right of way. Damage to the flatbed trailer was estimated to be $2,000. Damage to Sukovaty’s car was estimated to be $3,500.
Sunday, May 3: At 2:03 pm, a deputy investigated a criminal mischief and a trespassing concern in the 2100 block of Neola Ave south of Jefferson. At 3:18 pm, a deputy investigated the report of ATVs and dirt bikes being ridden and trespassing on private property in the 1300 block of County Road P-14 (J Ave) in Jackson Township. At 4:13 pm a deputy was dispatched to the 500 block of South 11th Street in Grand Junction to investigate criminal mischief to a garage door.
Saturday, May 2: At 7:48 pm a deputy assisted a Carroll County deputy with trying to locate the owner of a vehicle that was involved in an automobile accident in Carroll County.
